First Impression #11 | The Olaplex Hair Treatment

Hey there my lovelies,

Olaplex_Logo_OL

Let me start off this post by saying that I have tried a lot of new stuff and services over the years, but I truly wish that Olaplex was around like 10 years ago when I decided to lighten my hair to blonde? I was totally in love with the color, but I had to cut my hair very short in order to keep damage to a minimum.  Despite doing EVERYTHING in my power to keep my hair healthy, I had to go back to the dark side.

Fast forward to 2015 and Olaplex is here now and truth be told the initial impact it had on the media and people around the globe was when Kim Kardashian went BLOND overnight for Paris Fashion Week last year.  I mean people were going crazy for this miracle ingredient and I am pretty much sure everyone thought that it was some kind of new bleach that does not damage your hair!

But let’s get the facts straight and break down the treatment and what it does exactly. Olaplex claims to “reconnect broken disulfide sulfur bonds in the hair.” In fact the treatment is labelled a “bond multiplier”, which limits damage to the hair during or after colouring.  A lot of people with damaged hair have managed to get amazing results from Olaplex.  Hair contains lots of keratin proteins, that included the amino acid cysteine. Cysteine is special because it contains a sulfur atom. Normally, two sulfurs will join together to form a disulfide bond, creating a link between two proteins.

All these proteins holding hands is partially the reason your hair’s maintains overall shape and strength. When hair is permed or straightened, these bonds are deliberately broken into two groups, and then reformed after the hair is pulled into its new shape. Reforming these bonds typically takes a few days (hence not washing your hair for a few days after perming or straightening).

So back to the purpose of this post, I was recently invited by Olaplex Malta for a complimentary treatment* and I was very happy to accept their kind offer as I have been wanting to try it out.  My hairdresser introduced me to Olaplex by been using the treatment with my hair color (to prolong the colour) and it is super gentle on the hair and contains oils to help nourish your hair at the same time.   I really liked how Olaplex made my hair feel when used with the colouring, but never got around do the treatment.

Olpalex Salon Treatment

I was really looking forward to the appointment and to experience first hand the Olaplex Treatment. When I got to the salon I met Keith and he explained the above details and how the treatment will proceed.  He started by applying the No 1 Bond Multiplier on my hair and let it sit for 15minutes. He then applied the No 2 Perfector right on top and he let it sit for another 10 minutes. This process is done so treatment can penetrate into the hair further, after that hair he washed, towel dried my hair and styled it.

I have had the Olaplex treatment done for a few weeks now and I noticed such an incredible difference in my hair. My hair seems not to be “shedding’ these days. Because I get my hair blow dried I tend to brush my hair more frequently but it is nice to see less hair on my brush and on the floor!  So I believe the Olaplex is already leading to less breakage.

Another part of Olaplex system is also the No. 3 Hair Perfector which is a take home treatment to use once a week between salon visits. This is basically a diluted, one step version of what you get in the salon, but still incredibly effective. The directions for use are to use a small amount on damp hair, leave it on for a minimum of 10 minutes or longer if you have a hair appointment on the same day. The two times I used it so far, I left it for a couple of hours. However, Keith did mention that I could sleep with the treatment in my hair, if I was to have an appointment in the morning.

It is not suggested to use the Olaplex treatment more than once a week because it can be an overkill. But the more I use the treatment, the better and better my hair is becoming. My ends are less fuzzy, my hair overall is more manageable and I am starting to get some nice wavy curl definition back when left to air dry.  Also, my hair has this shine and brilliance that I am liking very much.

I look forward to continue use of the Olaplex treatment so I can grow out the parts of my hair that have severe breakage and my hair could be thick and beautiful again and why not maybe fuller. Thanks to Olaplex too, I may be able to successfully achieve lighter blonde hair in future with the added insurance of knowing my hair hopefully won’t get severely damaged again. Right now my focus is on getting my hair health and regrow it.

I do need to stress out to please be careful and take care of your hair.  This is for sure one of the best treatments out there and if done right and by professionals there are high hopes for people that like blond hair or for the ones out there who like to experiment with different colours without the worry of damaging your hair.  I cannot stress enough how important it is that these type of treatments are done professionally and do avoid falling for any other means of purchasing this treatment as chances are it is not the real deal.  The price for this treatment at Stranje Hairdressing is Eur35, excluding the take home treatment.

Will I use Olaplex again?  Yes. In my opinion, if you want to repair, strengthen and regrow your hair or are looking to lighten your hair, Olaplex is worth every single penny.

Have you tried Olpalex? What are your thoughts about it?

Until next time,
XOXO
