Are you a party-lover? Do you love going out with friends and party the night away? Do you know that a party lifestyle can ruin your skin?

When you party into the night, you deprive yourself of sleep. Furthermore, you are exposing yourself to temptation when you have easy access to alcohol and cigarettes. At times, drugs could be prevalent in some of these parties as well.

Amid these partying habits, you could be destroying your health, including your skin. Here are some ways you are not helping your skin to stay healthy when you have a party lifestyle:

Sleep and Your Skin

Sleep is considered an important factor when you want to keep your skin healthy. Accordingly, the lack of it can affect your looks.

Michael Breus, a sleep specialist, noted that depriving yourself of sleep every night may ruin your appearance. Getting enough snooze (at least 6 hours) helps your body recover and repair itself.

By sleeping well, you minimize your wrinkles since it is during this time when your body produces new collagen. Your blood flow also improves, which will give you a better complexion and glowing skin. Puffy and black circles around your eyes can be avoided as well.

According to Breus, you can notice the improvement of your skin in two to three weeks if you start to get enough sleep.

Alcohol and Your Skin

Having a party lifestyle and drinking too much alcohol on a regular basis can have ill effects on your body. Among the several effects, alcohol has on the body, some studies have focused on the impact of alcohol abuse on one’s skin.

The Harvard Health Publishing published an article that discussed the possible link between alcohol and the development of skin cancer among alcoholics. It cited two meta-analyses which associated the substance with the disease, particularly the squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma types of skin cancer.

It was explained that alcohol can block the body’s ability to repair the alterations in the DNA following the exposure to ultraviolet light. Once the body fails to perform DNA repair, that is when cancer could develop.

With this concern, it is advised that you should limit your alcohol intake. If you are a woman, you should not have more than one drink each day and two drinks if you are a man.

Furthermore, another study found that alcoholism can cause many skin diseases. These include rosacea, urticarial reactions, flushing, porphyria cutanea tarda, psoriasis, cutaneous stigmata of cirrhosis, seborrheic dermatitis, and pruritus.

Another report gave a simple explanation of why alcohol is no good for your skin. It noted that the substance dehydrates both the body and skin and makes the blood vessels widen. As a result, the skin looks blotchy or turns red.

Smoking and Your Skin

Smoking is oftentimes a very common scenario during parties. You even see a lot of guests from various corners of the venue flickering a cigarette. Do you know that smoking can ruin your skin?

Different studies suggest that smoking has immunomodulatory effects on the body. This means that the substance can affect one’s immune system.

The addictive habit is closely associated with many dermatologic problems including premature skin aging, psoriasis, wrinkling, systemic lupus erythematosus, poor wound healing, hair loss, genital warts, and hidradenitis suppurativa.

It was disclosed that based on the results of the study published in the Korean Journal for Family Medicine, a change in the skin color of a smoker was observed following a month of cessation. The desirable effects noticed on the smoker’s skin were recommended for further evaluation.

Smoking, including marijuana, has negative effects on your skin. According to Dr. Amy Wechsler, a dermatologist, smoking can cause the eyebag formation under the eyes, as well as losing the skin’s natural glow, and increasing your susceptibility to developing psoriasis.

She explained that these happen because of smoking, even just a single cigarette can constrict the blood flow. Thus, you are depriving your skin of oxygen, which could last for 90 minutes. You have to understand that oxygen is very important in making your skin glow. In fact, a number of derma clinics these days offer oxygen-related treatments to improve the skin’s appearance.

Drug Abuse and Your Skin

There have been endless reports citing drugs among the “activities” involved in parties. Some party-goers do drugs while enjoying the night with friends.

As drug abuse can pose serious health risks, the skin also manifests its negative impact on you.

Heroin, for instance, could make your veins collapse and may cause skin problems once abused. This opioid is commonly abused because of the euphoric feeling it gives to the user.

Meanwhile, Krokodil, which is known as a man-made morphine, will make your skin appear like that of a crocodile’s, which explains the name. As you use it more, you can observe your skin becoming extremely scaly and green. This happens as your blood vessels get damaged.

Methamphetamine, on the other hand, can cause skin problems, not because of an alteration in the DNA or one’s system. Basically, the hallucination it brings to the user causes the skin problems to develop with the user feeling as though bugs are crawling on their skin.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse for Teens pointed out that those who take methamphetamine excessively hallucinate most often. When they are high on it, they imagine that insects are crawling all over their body. With such a feeling, they tend to scratch a lot causing skin breakouts. When there are open sores, skin infection develops.

It is worth noting that steroids can cause acne, not just on your face but also in other parts of your body. As well as ugly needle marks that injecting drugs can leave on your skin.

Aside from veering away from your party lifestyle, which could involve sleep deprivation, smoking, and substance abuse, there are ways to fast-track the improvement of your skin’s health. You can follow a strict diet consisting of healthy meal preparations and do a regular exercise routine that helps promote healthy blood flow.
